Jakarta, April 7, 2026 – PT Kaltim Methanol Industri (PT KMI) has once again achieved a strategic milestone at the national level by receiving the 2025 PROPER Gold Award from the Ministry of Environment (KLH) of the Republic of Indonesia. This award represents the highest recognition of the company’s environmental management performance and corporate social responsibility, while also positioning PT KMI as one of the companies with the highest sustainability standards in Indonesia.
The achievement of the 2025 PROPER Gold Award reflects PT KMI’s long journey in establishing environmental management systems and practices for the chemical industry through innovative, participatory, and collaborative approaches involving all stakeholders. PT KMI continues to demonstrate a consistent trend of improving environmental management performance. This consistency underscores that sustainability has become an integral part of the company’s business strategy and work culture.
As a concrete manifestation of its environmental management, PT KMI has implemented Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) as one of the company’s flagship programs. The application of CCU to produce methanol is the first of its kind in Indonesia’s chemical industry. Through this approach, carbon emissions generated from industrial processes are not only controlled but also reused as a value-added feedstock in the methanol production process.
The implementation of the CCU introduces a new paradigm in environmental management, where carbon emissions are no longer viewed as waste but rather as a strategic resource that can be optimally utilized. This initiative makes a significant contribution to reducing the company’s carbon emission intensity and supports the national agenda of transitioning toward Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in Indonesia as part of the solution to the issue of global climate change.
In addition to technology-based innovations, PT KMI also demonstrates a strong commitment to implementing integrated, adaptive, and solution-oriented corporate social and environmental responsibility programs. These programs are designed using a “creating shared value” approach, which focuses not only on short-term assistance but also on the sustainable capacity building of communities.
One of the flagship programs that has a direct impact on coastal communities is “Kotak Kehidupan.” This program offers an innovative solution for local fishermen by providing tools to store their catch. By utilizing liquid nitrogen from recycled industrial processes, PT KMI has developed a system for making ice without electricity. Through “Kotak Kehidupan,” fishermen can keep their catch fresh longer, increase their income, reduce emissions, and actively participate in preserving the coastal ecosystem.
Moving forward, PT KMI will continue to strengthen its commitment and pursue its transformation toward a green industry through the development and optimization of low-carbon technologies, as well as the continuous improvement of operational efficiency. PT KMI is also committed to expanding its contributions to the environment and society as part of its long-term responsibility to support national sustainable development.
With a strong foundation and a clear strategic direction, PT KMI is confident that it can continue to serve as a benchmark for the chemical industry in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region.
