The commitment of PT Kaltim Methanol Industri (KMI) in supporting the fulfillment of children's rights, as well as encouraging Bontang as a city worthy of children, received appreciation from the government. In the moment of the 22nd anniversary of Bontang, PT KMI was named one of the best friend companies for the children of Bontang City in 2021.
This award was held at the Bontang Mayor's Office Auditorium, Jalan Moh Roem, Bontang Lestari Village, South Bontang District, Tuesday (22/10/2021) afternoon. Mayor of Bontang Basri Rase gave the award directly to GA & PR Deputy Dept Manager of PT KMI Harry Iswara.
To bontangpost.id, Harry said that there were two special children's programs that PT KMI was working on seriously. Namely the English Village in Guntung Village and the education cluster and the use of leisure time and cultural activities through the School Literacy Movement (Glycerin).
For the English Village program, this has been in the works since 2019, which is intended for elementary-junior high school students who live in Guntung Village. Every Saturday, children learn English for free, all facilities, facilities, materials and teachers are provided by the company.
It is hoped that from this program, children can become more proficient in English. As is known, English is the international language of instruction. This is useful both at school, and later when the children grow up. They can have a bargaining position, because they are proficient in foreign languages.
"That's the hope. The children in Guntung are fluent in English. This will be very useful for them later," said Harry Iswara.
To encourage children to learn, PT KMI also gave prizes for outstanding children who graduated from English Village. A total of 3 junior high school students were flown to Singapore for vacation.
In addition, another excellent program is the development and support of Glycerin. This program was formed for elementary-junior high school teachers. Here, teachers are fostered to be able to compile their own books. So that 4 books were published which later could be enjoyed by students. KMI also sent 3 outstanding teachers at the Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle School levels in 2019 to go for Umrah, all costs were borne by KMI.
"In the future, KMI has a program to introduce a literacy movement based on environmental education to elementary school teachers and students," he said.
Through this appreciation, Harry hopes that PT KMI will synergize more with the Bontang City Government in realizing a strategic plan for city development, especially in the field of education for a better future for the nation's children.
"We will do the best for the children of Bontang," he said.
Meanwhile, Bontang Mayor Basri Rase in his speech expressed his appreciation for the company's support and participation in the development of Taman City. He hopes that the slick collaboration between the company and the government will continue, and even be improved in order to make Bontang a great and civilized city, as Basri Najirah's vision and mission are.
